Why Attend?
The course provides you with knowledge on the safe use of fluoroscopic X-ray equipment. It includes practical advice to ensure that radiation exposures to patients and persons in the vicinity of the fluoroscopy equipment (including you!) are kept As Low As Reasonably Achievable.
Successful completion of the course fulfils the safety training pre-requisite for the radiation user licence.
Staff specialists who set the exposure controls or initiate the X-ray exposure, are required by NSW law to hold a radiation user licence. The NSW radiation user licence may be recognised in other states, territories and New Zealand under a mutual recognition scheme.
Registrars are currently exempt from holding a licence, but this is subject to change in late 2025 and the course certificate can be used to apply for a user licence in future.
Course Structure
The course duration is 3.5 hours, including a break. The approximate schedule is as follows:
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate that can be used as evidence that they have met the training pre-requisite for the NSW radiation user licence (IA22). The certificate does not expire and can be used to apply for a licence in the future.
