Swansea Men's ShedLocated in Blacksmiths, just north of the Swansea Bridge, Swansea Men’s Shed is open Tuesday to Thursday from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm. Swansea Men's Shed aims to create a place for men to gather, socialise, assist others, to work closely with local schools or on their own projects (such as leathercraft), in the community garden or on the many community projects. The Swansea Men’s Shed is a great supporter of Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie having provided donation coin collection boats that are placed around Lake Macquarie and along the coastline. |

Windale Men's ShedThe Windale Men’s Shed has been in operation since 2006 and has risen out of the ashes of a NSW State Government Community Renewal Scheme that commenced in 2000. The project was initially auspiced by Catholic Care Newcastle but is now an independent self-managed project. The community driven spirit underpins the project as a community shed. The Windale Men’s Shed has been established to provide a valuable place where young people can also receive mentoring and training from skilled retired or unemployed men. A key focus is for young people to develop skills, to improve their literacy and numeracy skills. The Shed provides a vehicle to improve life skills and job opportunities. It is located in Windale, a Department of Housing Estate established in early 1951 and has its own unique postcode. The Windale Men’s Shed is available for those who wish to use their skills, knowledge or experience to be involved in personal or community projects, become involved at a supervisory level or just experience social interaction (meet with others and have a cuppa). The Shed opens Tuesday and Thursday whilst some members attend Mondays, an administration day and Fridays for Tai Chi and other shed related activities/projects. The primary activities for the shed are in metal work, small motors and all facets of wood work. The Shed is also available to benefit community members to conduct their own repairs or projects or by submitting for consideration a project for completion by shed volunteers. Members of the community are encouraged to develop a sense of ownership for the project with room for community input at all levels. |
