Pre-Congress Workshops
There will be 4 Concurrent Pre-Congress Workshops being held on Thursday 21 July, 1pm – 5pm at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Registration fees for all pre-congress workshops will be $30 early bird, and $50 regular fee.
Workshop 1
“Latest developments in Cancer Nursing professional development “
Summary
At no time in Australian cancer nursing has there been a greater need for implementing a national professional development framework, strategy and resources.
The aging nursing population coupled with AHPRA requirement and increasing specialised nursing care has resulted in the need for a national framework and education resources that supports all facets of cancer nursing professional development.
This workshop includes sessions on the latest developments in workplace learning, EdCaN’s National Professional Development Framework for Cancer Nursing and a review of the eviQEd Antineoplastic Drug Administration Program.
There will be an opportunity to share experiences and explore strategies in small groups to implement initiatives within health care settings.

Workshop 2
“The post treatment transition: challenges in providing quality nursing care beyond initial cancer treatment completion”

Summary
This interactive workshop, facilitated by nurses associated with the Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre (A Richard Pratt Legacy), will initially review the definitions of survivorship and provide an update regarding the evidence for survivorship models and care plans. Participants will have the opportunity to share descriptions of their current role in supporting cancer survivors and their perceptions of how evidence based follow up care plans will work in their clinical context. Discussions will involve identifying the enablers and challenges of implementing survivorship care plans and what education resources may be required to assist with implementation. Outcomes from this workshop will be used to direct the work of the Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre (ACSC) project. The ACSC aim is to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer. In developing resources the ACSC project team hope to support cancer nurses specifically in the area of Survivorship Care Plans and education regarding cancer survivorship issues.

Workshop 3 –
“Update on Chemotherapy delivery systems - closed systems and safe delivery systems”

Summary
The workshop will be focusing on "Chemotherapy Delivery Devices - Closed Systems and Clinical safety". The session will provide overviews of safe practice, pumps, lines and closed systems. It will benefit all oncology nurses and enable discussion / networking of methods of delivery so there is more consistency of care and "safe practice".

Summary
The purpose of this workshop is to highlight the latest treatment options for the patient with lung cancer, including novel and targeted therapies. This workshop will also cover best practice in the multidisciplinary care of the patient with lung cancer and provide an update from World Lung.
