Workshop 1
Different management strategies, similar outcome? - Jillian Rodda

Different management strategies to achieve the same outcome (knee extension in our discussion) can be employed by different institutions and different strategies can be effective.  An example of this is maintenance and/ or restortion of knee extension in gait, as this can be targeted predominately by the use of a program of botulinum toxin-A injections and/ or surgery in many institutions but protocols may differ e.g. Leuven, Belguim and  Melbourne, Australia.  The differences and similarities of both management philosophies will be highlighted. Risks and benefits of both strategies will be discussed.

Workshop 2                   
Game on: goals and motor enrichment for infants with Cerebral Palsy -
Cathy Morgan

This workshop will present findings from a new meta-analysis and randomised controlled trial applying motor learning and enrichment strategies in infants with CP. The intervention includes intensive motor skill training, creating appropriate and challenging play environments, parent education in stimulating practice and support environments for the acquisition of important developmental skills such as feeding and sleeping, and clinically reasoned use of adaptive equipment.

Target Audience:  PT's and OT's

Workshop 3                         
Children born extremely preterm who have no major disability but who have ongoing challenges in participation, activity and competency - Laura Brown

This workshop will be an interactive session that encourages audience participation.  Evidence will be presented outlining the various mild developmental difficulties experienced by children, including problems with movement, postural control, behaviour and participation.

Target Audience:  Paediatric therapists, Teachers, Paediatricians interested in children with mild developmental difficulties, Neonatologists and Parents of premature children

Skill Level: Suitable for any level

Workshop 4                        
Ageing well with Cerebral Palsy: aiming for excellence - Amy Hogan

This wokshop will present profiles of what it means to have CP and be 60+ years or older, with a particular emphasis on maintaining mobility, and overall health.  The workshop will also feature three clips showcasing our member’s perspectives on their ageing process.

Target Audience: Clinicians, Individuals living with CP and Parents

Workshop 5                         
Managing pain and anxiety in children undergoing procedures and interventions in the rehabilitation setting; drugs, distraction, digital design and more -

This workshop provides participants with practical skills and knowledge to improve the experience of patients undergoing procedures or interventions which can cause pain or anxiety.  This includes a wide range of interventions including botulinum toxin injections, formal gait analysis and serial casting. 

Target Audience:  Allied health and medical professionals

Fitness Workshop 
Testing of fitness in children and adolescents with Cerebral Palsy part 1 & 2 -

Children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) have distinctly subnormal aerobic and anaerobic capacity in comparison with typically developing peers. Low levels on these fitness components may contribute to the difficulties in motor activities most children with CP encounter in daily life. 

The first part of this workshop will briefly review and discuss the relevant literature and evidence regarding exercise testing in children with CP. The course will then focus on more practical aspects and participants will practice different standardized exercise tests.

The second part of the workshop will summarize the evidence for what works and what doesn’t work for improving the physical activity of children and adolescents with CP. It also discusses what research directions are needed.

Workshop 6
Innovations in clinical motion analysis: optimising treatment recommendations for children with lower limb impairment - Christopher Carty

This workshop will be divided into three sections, each followed by an opportunity for questions. Section 1: Multi-segment foot modelling and Section 2: Inverse kinematic modelling. 

Target Audience: Clinicians, researchers and allied health professionals with an interest in clinical motion analysis

Skill Level: The presentations will be suitable for participants with beginner or advanced knowledge in clinical motion analysis

Workshop 7 
Early natural history of Cerebral Palsy: comprehensive outcomes of the Australian Cerebral Palsy child studies - Roslyn Boyd 

Co-presenters: Dr Kristy Bell, Stina Oftedal, Jackie Walker (Dieticians), Kath Benfer, Andrea Coleman (Speech pathologists) Koa Whittingham (Psychologist)

This workshop will focus on the outcomes of two longitudinal population based cohort studies of preschool infants with CP (Motor and Brain Development, Growth Nutrition and Physical Activity studies). Current evidence for early natural history of children across the spectrum of severity of cerebral palsy will be presented.

The relationship between early motor capacity and other functions (hip development, gait patterns, communication, Habitual Physical Activity, oropharyngeal dysphagia (OPD), feeding, social function) will be examined.  Novel data on health care costs and consequences that could inform the national provision of Better Start and Disability Care will also be presented.

Outcomes of these early natural history studies will be also illustrated with several cases with small group discussions facilitated to explore issues of surveillance, prognosis and optimal intervention points.

Workshop 8      
Translating research evidence into practice: therapy dosing and contemporary motor learning approaches for children with unilateral Cerebral Palsy - Leanne Sakzewski

Throughout the workshop, participants will work through a systematic process based on the Implementation of Change Model to determine practical ways to progress change in their workplace and adoption of research evidence into routine clinical practice. This will include consideration of how the research evidence could be adapted for the local context, understanding existing care practice and how much it differs from the evidence, practical ways of collecting data to map current practice against evidence criteria; understanding barriers and enablers to change (individual, team/unit, organisational); understanding the readiness for change in the workplace; select and develop improvement strategies; integration of change into care practice routines for sustainability.

Target Audience: Occupational therapists and physiotherapists working with children with Cerebral Palsy

Workshop 9    
Making smart choices: best practice intelligence assessment for children with Cerebral Palsy - Rebecca Yin Foo

Opportunities for discussion and questions will be encouraged throughout the session. Practical activities using IQ assessment items will be included. Participants will be required to complete pre-reading about clinimetrics and a short online IQ assessment before the workshop.

Target Audience: Suitable for any health or education professional who either administers IQ assessments, or uses information from IQ assessments for clinical/research purposes when working with children with CP

Workshop 10
Workplaces are the ideal setting to transform information into meaningful knowledge - Kelly Reynolds

This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to explore the concept of learning as an active process and will present strategies that can facilitate professional learning either within an educational setting or a practice setting.  Workshop participants will develop strategies to facilitate professionals to modify and adapt information to create meaningful knowledge.  This knowledge is what will inform actions and behaviours in clinical practice.

Target Audience: Health Professionals of all disciplines, particularly those participating in education, supervision and mentoring of team members

Workshop 11 
Putting our best foot forward – the assessment of foot deformities in children with Cerebral Palsy - Anna Mackey

This session will present case examples of common secondary foot deformities in children with Cerebral Palsy and discuss the proposed pathological mechanisms. We will review current and novel assessment tools, including clinical assessment, imaging, plantar pressures and three-dimensional foot modelling obtained from motion analysis.

Target Audience: Therapists; Rehabilitation Physicians and Orthopaedic Surgeons

Workshop 12
Physical activity for adults with Cerebral Palsy - breaking down barriers to participation -  Prue Golland

This workshop will explore what is currently known about physical activity participation and prescription in adults with CP. A unique exercise service model at Cerebral Palsy Alliance will be described and the results of a chart audit of the programme from 2010 to 2013 will be presented.

Workshop 13
Management of children with Cerebral Palsy after single event multilevel surgery: the approach from two centres, Leuven and Melbourne - Pam Thomason

This course will review the evidence for SEMLS to improve gait and function in children with CP. The common surgical procedures used will be outlined and the postoperative management and rehabilitation program that we follow at our Centre will be presented and compared and contrasted to that provided at a world renowned international centre at Leuven.

Target Audience: Physiotherapists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Rehabilitation Physicians and Orthotists

Workshop 14
Pediatric constraint induced movement therapy: translating evidence into practice - Stephanie DeLuca

This course will briefly present the evidenced-based literature surrounding P-CIMT plus seek to support the clinical dissemination of evidenced-based practices. Variations in P-CIMT models will be presented and discussed.

Target Audience: Therapists interested in using P-CIMT

Workshop 15
Move it to improve it: a multi-modal, web-based approach to neurorehabilitation for individuals with cerebral palsy or acquired brain injury - Roslyn Boyd

Co-presenters: Louise Mitchell, Emmah Bacque, (Physiotherapists) Sarah James, Melinda Lewis (Occupational Therapists), Stephanie Ross (Psychologist)

This workshop will summarise the development of new web based multi-modal intervention Mitii™ and discuss current evidence for its application for children and adolescents with CP or ABI. Case studies will provide attendees with practical applications of the program.

The workshop will include interactive case studies presenting outcomes or motor processing, upper limb, visual perceptual, functional strength, physical activity and executive function and allow ample time for attendees to trial both versions of Mitii™.
