Suzanne Pagett is a Clinical Nurse Consultant with the Acute Pain Service at Westmead Hospital. Sue has been a registered nurse for over 33 years working in many clinical areas and since 2001 a key team member of the Acute Pain Service. She has post graduate qualifications in acute pain management, palliative care and a Master’s degree in Nursing Clinical Leadership.

Sue is a member of both the Westmead Hospital and Western Sydney Local Health District Policy Procedure and Guideline committees and is also a member of the Safe Use Medicines committee for Westmead and Auburn Hospitals.

Sue recently received the 2017 Nurse of Year for Westmead Hospital in recognition for her outstanding contribution to nursing.

Whilst passionate about all aspects of acute pain, Sue has a keen interest in procedural pain management.

Philip Peyton’s research interests range widely from basic and applied science in anaesthetic physiology and pharmacology, to large clinical trials in perioperative medicine. He has over 100 publications with more than 2,500 citations, and has delivered over 50 invited presentations at local and international meetings. He is the current Chair of the ANZCA Clinical Trials Network, and has been a Chief Investigator in several large multicentre international clinical trials in anaesthesia including the MASTER Trial, ENIGMA trials and the RELIEF Trial. He is leading the ROCKet Trial, investigating the potential effect of perioperative ketamine on the risk of development of chronic postsurgical pain.

University of Western Australia & Royal Perth Hospital

Professor Stephan Schug is Professor and Chair of Anaesthesiology in the School of Medicine and Pharmacology at the University of Western Australia. He is also the Director of Pain Medicine at the Royal Perth Hospital and is responsible for overseeing the Comprehensive Inpatient Pain Service, as well as a multi-disciplinary Pain Medicine Centre.  

His principal research interests include the management of acute and chronic pain, cancer pain, regional anaesthesia, the pharmacology of local anaesthetics and analgesics and quality improvement in health care.

Professor Schug studied medicine at the University of Cologne, Germany, where he also obtained his MD in clinical pharmacology and subsequently specialised in anaesthesia and pain medicine. He has written over 80 research and 170 review papers, as well as abstracts, letters, and editorials, and has edited or co-authored several books, book chapters, and monographs. He is currently on editorial and review boards of several leading journals including Pain & Therapy, Annals of Palliative Medicine, Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology and CNS Drugs. Professor Schug is an active member of several pain and anaesthesia societies including Chair of the SIG Acute Pain of IASP and Chair of the SIG Acute Pain of ACE, and is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) and its Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPMANZCA), where he is a member of the Board of the Faculty.
