Giandomenico Iannetti is Professor of Neuroscience at University College London (UCL) and Principal Investigator at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), where he leads the Neuroscience and Behaviour Laboratory (www.iannettilab.net). He uses psychophysical and neurophysiological approaches to conduct experiments that investigate fundamental questions about human perception and behaviour. His research focuses on pain, defence and peripersonal space. He is the recipient of several awards, including the 2012 Patrick D. Wall Investigator Award for Basic Science from the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and the 2014 Camillo Golgi Prize from the Accademia dei Lincei. His research group has been funded by programme grants from major European agencies (e.g. The Royal Society, The Wellcome Trust, the European Research Council [ERC]).

Edel O’Hagan is an early career research fellow at Westmead Applied Research Centre and a registered Physiotherapist. She completed her PhD at NeuRA, UNSW. Her research focused on understanding low back pain information from the perspective of consumers to facilitate patient-centred care.

Edel’s research has improved knowledge on how to implement the foremost recommendation for people with low back pain to promote self-management. Edel also led a program to understand digital health interventions and social media in research, conducting multiple rounds of consultation with industry and consumers to refine a social media campaign message, and secure investment from research partners to develop the message into a social media product.

Edel’s research has attracted interest of major TV and radio outlets, and featured in the print media including newspapers and public and professional magazines.

A/ Professor Tasha Stanton is the Osteoarthritis Research Theme Lead for IIMPACT in Health at The University of South Australia, Adelaide. A/Professor Stanton currently holds a National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Career Development Fellowship. She is a clinical pain neuroscientist, with original clinical training as a physiotherapist. She has a specific interest in pain education, osteoarthritis, low back pain, cortical body representation, somatosensation, and body illusions using virtual and mediated reality. 

She has received >$5.3m in competitive research funding, has published >100 peer-reviewed journal articles, and she has been a keynote/invited speaker at >100 national and international conferences. She has had the privilege of mentoring over 14 postdoctoral fellows/PhD candidates throughout her career as well as benefitting enormously from amazing mentors.
