COVID-19 Safety Onsite

The Australian Pain Society, the APS 2022 Conference Secretariat, DCC&A, and the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart (HGC) is focused on ensuring the health and wellbeing of all conference delegates. While we are very excited to finally be connecting in person again, we want to remind all delegates that some parts of the conference will look a little different than the last time we met face to face. 

Please note, these protocols will undergo regular review and will be updated in line with Government recommendations.

Before attending APS 2022

All delegates are required to monitor their own health and wellbeing. If you are feeling unwell, have been in close contact of a confirmed case, have the slightest of symptoms or are COVID-19 positive, please do not attend APS 2022.

If you are unable to travel between Saturday 9 - Wednesday 13 April due to you being COVID-19 positive or being considered a close contact, the APS will offer a credit towards registration for APS 2023. Please provide documentation in support of your claim e.g. from your GP or employer, to the Conference Secretariat.  

Onsite at APS 2022

  • Hand sanitisers and antibacterial wipes will be readily available throughout the venue including in the exhibition and session rooms.

  • Attendee numbers will be monitored and some conference sessions may be limited based on room size and the existing regulations. 

  • No hand held microphones will be available for delegate use during Q&A portions of the breakout sessions. This year, all questions must be sent through the conference app only.

  • The HGC will adhere to current social distancing protocols and provide regular cleaning and sanitising in public areas.

  • Conference Secretariat staff will be wearing masks at the registration desk.

  • All catering stations will include:
    • Sneeze guards,
    • HGC staff monitoring and reminding delegates to socially distance,
    • hand sanitisers at the start of the buffet line.
    • Cocktail functions will not include any dips or shared sauces.

Delegates Responsibilities

Mask Wearing

We strongly encourage all delegates to wear masks throughout the conference. Additional masks are available from the registration desk if you forget yours or need a replacement throughout the week. 

Check in Tas App

All Tasmanians and visitors to the state are required to use the Check in TAS app. For further information and to download the app please click here

Should delegates not be able to check in using their own device the HGC will provide an alternate registration method at the main hotel reception desk.

What to do if you become unwell during APS 2022

We strongly encourage all delegates to bring a few Rapid Antigen Tests with them. If you become unwell during your time in Hobart, please do not attend the conference or visit the APS 2022 Registration Desk.

COVID-19 Positive Delegates

What to do first

Firstly, please do not leave your hotel room and do not come back to the conference. 

Delegates who test positive to COVID-19 whilst in Hobart must isolate in suitable accommodation for 7 days from the date of their positive test. They must call the Tasmania Public Health Line on 1800 973 363 to register their case.

Guest staying at the HGC

Should HGC hotel guests test positive during their stay at the HGC, they can choose to isolate for the duration in their room pending accommodation availability. Accommodation is subject to availability and will be at guests own cost.

Guests still need to contact Tasmania Public Health to register their condition and advise all close contracts within 48hours of testing positive.

Guests can choose to move to a government facility if they wish to.

Other Local Hotels

Delegates who have booked accommodation elsewhere, will need to contact their hotel directly to find out if they can continue to stay on there, or if they will need to be moved to a dedicated quarantine hotel.

Quarantine Hotels

If COVID-19 positive delegates are unable to secure suitable accommodation then they need to contact Tasmanian Public Health to be placed in a designated quarantine facility at the cost of $2,800 per person.

Medical Support 

Delegates who become COVID-19 positive can register for the Tasmanian Government’s COVID-19 at home program to access a 24 hour healthcare hotline and health monitoring services should they require it. For further information, please click here

Conference Registration Cancellation Policy
