APS ASM Hobart 2022, Tasmania

On behalf of the Australian Pain Society’s Local Organising Committee, we are delighted to welcome you back to the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Hobart, Tasmania for our 2022 Annual Scientific Meeting, from 10th -13th April.

We are excited at the prospect of finally getting together again for our first face to face meeting in 3 years and are thrilled to finally be able to host it in Hobart, after the cancellation of the ill-fated conference in 2020.

The Scientific Program Committee is once again pleased to have procured two most impressive international speakers:

  • Professor Andrew Rice, Imperial College London, UK
  • Dr Beverly Thorn, University of Alabama, USA

They will be joined by an inspiring range of national and international speakers who will provide a veritable glance at the most complex, challenging, provocative and indeed interesting topic: Pain.

Hobart is a world-class destination with its enchanting history, picturesque harbour, rugged mountains, gourmet food and wine experiences, and trendy arts and cultural scene. Hobart is a city for everyone. Come and browse around Salamanca, with its bustling Saturday Market, and lose yourself in the maze of the ‘Cracked and Spineless bookshop’, or revisit your childhood in the Faerie shop. Pick up a souvenir from Shiver me Timbers, and stock up on sheepskin slippers at Tasmania Ugg. Travel by ferry along the River Derwent to MONA, the Museum of New and Modern Art and experience a unique ‘assault on the senses’ which will leave a lasting impression. Wander around the beautiful botanical gardens, challenge your nerves on an evening ghost tour of the city, and enjoy a night cap at the candle lit Whiskey Bar.

For those who may wish to wander further afield, take in the majestic views from the top of kunanyi Mount Wellington. Become a prisoner for the day at the Port Arthur Historic site, the 19th century penal settlement which is amongst the most significant convict era sites in the world. Visit Richmond with its convict-built bridge, historical gaol, and miniature replica village of Old Hobart Town as it was in the 1820’s. Visit our wineries on the Derwent, Coal River and Huon Valleys which comprise the Southern Wine Route, and enjoy the cool-climate wines which win high praise from winemakers around the world.

Hobart city will capture you with a perfect memory which, I guarantee,  you will want to revisit. We look forward to seeing you all in 2022.
