Tim graduated from the University of Sydney in 1991 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy. Since 1994, he has been a Principal Physiotherapist at Camperdown Physiotherapy.
Tim’s work in the Private Practice has always involved inter-disciplinary pain management, currently with Associate Professor Tillman Boesel and the team at the Inner West and Western Suburbs Pain Centres in Sydney.
From 2005 to 2007, Tim completed a Masters of Pain Management with Honours through the University of Sydney. Upon completion of this degree, Tim was asked to commence on the teaching staff of this degree programme, a position he continues to hold.
Tim sits on the Board of the Australian Pain Society as Treasurer. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Pain Group of the Australian Physiotherapy Association, and is currently Chair of the National Committee of this Group. In 2018, Tim was awarded the APA Title of Pain Physiotherapist, and is currently a registrar in the inaugural Pain Specialisation training scheme of the College of Physiotherapy.
Tim has 2 keen professional interests. Firstly, the provision of evidence based inter-disciplinary pain management in primary and secondary care. Secondly, that all professions working in pain management have the capacity to learn from each other, in all forms of continuing education.

Dr Katherine Brain is a Clinical Research Fellow and Accredited Practising Dietitian with Hunter Integrated Pain Service, NSW, Australia. Katherine is passionate about improving the quality of life of people experiencing chronic pain through dietary changes. She actively advocates to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition in chronic pain management, especially for older people. Katherine completed her PhD in 2019, in collaboration with dietetic researchers at the University of Newcastle and clinicians at Hunter Integrated Pain Service which aimed to improve clinical outcomes of patients attending the service by improving their dietary intake and behaviours.

Katherine is the Dietitians Australia representative on the Australian Pain Society Relationships Committee and a member of the Dietitian’s Australia Rehabilitation and Aged Care Interest Group leadership team.

Hunter Integrated Pain Service

Fiona Hodson is a Pain Management Clinical Nurse Consultant with the Hunter Integrated Pain Service NSW, Australia who has worked in all aspects of pain service delivery over the last 22 years. She was a member of the Pain Taskforce to develop the NSW Pain Model of Care in 2011. Pain Project Officer for the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) Pain Management Network, which culminated in the launch of the Pain Network website March 2014 and remains an active member on the pain network executive and other working parties.
Fiona is immediate Past President of the Australian Pain Society (APS) with a particular interest of pain in the elderly. During her tenure on the APS board, she coordinated the revision of the internationally recognised Pain in Residential Aged Care Facilities: Management Strategies, 2nd Edition (RACF2), as well as being a co-author. She is currently working collaboratively with the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), on developing a Pain Management Guidelines Implementation Toolkit to align with the RACF2 pain guidelines.
Fiona’s passion for advocating for people experiencing pain is evidenced by her ongoing clinical and consumer representation on various national committees and working parties and is currently Vice President of Chronic Pain Australia (CPA).

Karalyn is a community pharmacist and an accredited consultant pharmacist. Karalyn provides locum services, medication reviews and delivers quality use of medication programs mainly in rural and regional Australia. Karalyn is a consultant to the PainWISE training program as well as many other professional bodies.

Karalyn has a strong interest in pain management, asthma and COPD, aged care, wound care, travel medicine, chronic disease programs and the health of aboriginal, Torres Strait and South Sea Islander people. She is credentialed in Mental Health First aid and provides immunisation services.

Karalyn is actively involved in her local community in supporting programs to improve the health outcome of the community.

In January 2010 Karalyn was awarded an Australia Day award for services to the health of the Mackay community and in October 2010 she was awarded the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia Pharmacist of the Year award. Karalyn was awarded a fellowship of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia in 2010. In 2015 Karalyn was awarded the Quality Use of Medicine in Pain Management award by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia.

Nicole Moore BA.PHTY, M Public Health (Pain)

Nicole is an APA titled pain physiotherapist with over 10 years of dedicated practice to the lived experience of persistent pain. She is a senior mindfulness facilitator through the Mindfulness Training Institute of Australasia, a current board member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association’s Victorian Pain Group, and an advisory board member & educator for Yoga for Pain Care Australia. Nicole’s practice is dedicated to both the science and experience of the body-mind connection, particularly the interface between pain and suffering and the arising potential for insight and growth.

Dr Steven Savvas is a research in geriatric science with industry-relevant experience in the aged care sector. He has a strong research interest in pain and dementia, workforce education, and innovation in the home and residential aged care services. 

Most of Dr Savvas’ work focuses on how to improve the quality of aged care services, how to effectively educate and train aged care and clinical care staff, and how to better manage clinical concerns prevalent in older people in aged care such as pain or dementia. He has been a principal or lead investigator on a number of aged care related projects such as: developing a pain management toolkit for residential aged care, surveying the quality of life and satisfaction with care of home care, respite and residential aged care clients, developing and evaluating tools to enhance the care of residents living in residential aged care, and developing a dementia training program for home care workers.
