Friday 13 March 2020: Following this afternoon’s advice by the Federal Government regarding all non-essential gatherings of over 500 people, the Australian Pain Society is saddened to announce that the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting is now unable to proceed. 

We will be in touch with all delegates, sponsors and exhibitors soon with further information. We appreciate your patience and understanding, as we work through the implications of this situation.

On behalf of the Australian Pain Society’s Local Organising Committee, it is with great pleasure that I invite you to join us in Hobart, Tasmania; Australia’s ‘Apple Isle’, for the 40^th Annual Scientific Meeting, from 5^th- 8^th April 2020.

Having reflected at the 39^th meeting, ‘on the IASP Global Year against Pain in the most Vulnerable’, 2020 will bring us more challenges ‘In the IASP Global Year for the Prevention of Pain’.

The Scientific Program Committee is thrilled to have procured three most impressive international speakers:

• Professor John Cryan, from University College, Cork, Ireland, who’s current research focusses on the interaction between brain, gut and microbiome and how it applies to stress, psychiatric and immune-related disorders.
• A/Professor Erin Krebs from University of Minnesota Medical School, USA. Her research addresses chronic pain and opioid analgesics.
• Dr Janet Bultitude from the University of Bath in the UK, whose research interests are pain, attention and sensorimotor interactions, as well as neurorehabilitation, and the ‘neglect-like’ sensory system changes in complex regional pain syndrome.

They will be joined by an inspiring range of national and international speakers who will provide a veritable glance at the most complex, challenging, provocative and indeed interesting topic: Pain.

Hobart is a world-class destination with its enchanting history, picturesque harbour, rugged mountains, gourmet food and wine experiences, and trendy arts and cultural scene. Browse Salamanca, with its bustling Saturday Market, travel by ferry along the River Derwent to MONA or wander around the beautiful botanical gardens.
