2019 Australian Pain Society 39th Annual Scientific Meeting

2019 Australian Pain Society 39th Annual Scientific MeetingIn the IASP Global Year Against Pain in the Most Vulnerable7 - 10 April 2019 | Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, QLD

We're Going Green!

The Australian Pain Society and DC Conferences are committed to producing environmentally friendly events. This is what we are doing to achieve this goal:

Conference App

Conference handbooks have not been produced since 2014. The APS conference handbook was, on average, 120 pages long and approximately 800 copies would be printed each year. By opting to use a conference app instead, the APS will have saved nearly 500,000 sheets of paper being used by the time APS 2019 rolls around.

The conference app provides delegates with more information than a handbook ever could; delegates can personalise their own program, read through a number of abstracts and information we couldn’t previously fit into the handbook, click through to view soft copy versions of submitted posters, connect with exhibitors and other delegates, plus so much more.

Satchels

The APS has always worked hard to source environmentally sustainable, fair trade and socially responsible satchel bags. We have strived to offer multiple use style bags – in 2015 we offered a lap top bag, in 2016 a wine cooler. 2019 will be the last year satchels are offered at APS ASM’s, we hope our delegates and exhibitors will get behind our move away from offering something we are increasingly told “ends up in the bin”!

GCCEC

The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is a world leading sustainable meetings and events venue, committed to the continued cultivation of environmental and social stewardship. Event organisers, clients and suppliers are assured that the Centre adheres to the highest environmental practices for venues.

Since inception, the Centre has endeavoured to support eco-friendly efforts both operationally and in design. Over the past 9 years, GCCEC has aligned its practices with EarthCheck, the world's most recognised and largest environmental management program, designed for the travel and tourism industry.

Reusable Cups

We all know how much that morning coffee helps get us through that first plenary session of the morning, but we urge all delegates to bring their reusable coffee cups with them. If every delegate used a reusable coffee cup instead of a one-use takeaway option we could save over 4000 cups going into land fill at APS 2019 alone! To purchase your contact the Secretariat or pick one up at the Registration Desk.

Bottled Water

We also ask all delegates to bring a reusable water bottle with them to the conference. Water will be, of course, available throughout the event, however only glasses and jugs will be offered. No one-use bottled water will be available and we look forward to refilling our bottles with you in the Gold Coast next April!
