How to help your patients quit smoking
This presentation will update nurse practitioners on how to help smokers quit. Smokers should be identified at every opportunity and offered evidence-based advice and support.
Practical guidelines for intervention will be discussed, including brief counselling skills and an update on the medications available to assist quitting.

Dr Colin Mendelsohn
Tobacco Treatment Specialist, The Sydney Clinic
Colin worked as a general practitioner for 27 years with a special interest in smoking cessation. He now works exclusively as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist at The Sydney Clinic in Bronte.
He is the immediate past President of the Australian Association of Smoking Cessation Professionals and a member of the committee that develops the Australian Smoking Cessation Guidelines.
He teaches in the Nicotine Addiction and Smoking Cessation course at the University of Sydney and regularly conducts workshops and lectures for health professionals.
