Poster Submission Guidelines

BACKGROUND DETAILS 

Nurse Practitioners are warmly invited to submit a poster and contribute to the ACNP 2014 Conference Program.

The ACNP conference is an opportunity for new researchers and nurse practitioners to present their findings and the conference organising committee is eager to assist in the development research and education for Nurse Practitioners.

Poster abstracts submissions must be original contributions and may be related to:

  • Clinical practice / case studies / service delivery
  • Program Evaluation / Review of Resource Delivery / Quality Improvement Activity
  • Scientific

This year the conference program will feature the following topics and areas of practice, and posters presenters must submit according to these topic themes:

  • Acute Care & Emergency
  • Aged Care
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Disease
  • Heart Failure
  • Mental Health
  • Ophthalmology
  • Paediatrics
  • Primary Care
  • Professional Leadership Issues
  • Research
  • Supportive Palliative Care
  • Women’s Health and Men’s Health
  • Wound Management

ABSTRACT PREPARATION

Submit your abstract for poster presentation on line.  Only online abstracts will be accepted.

Select your clinical stream and prepare your abstract according to one of the three following guidelines:

1.  CLINICAL PRACTICE / CASE STUDIES / SERVICE DELIVERY

These abstracts must contain the following:

  • An introduction or background statement that put the issue in context
  • A clear description of the issue following a logical timeline
  • A description of the relevant observations, preferably using objective data and information
  • Outcomes – how the issues were managed / resolved
  • Recommendations or implications for health education / specialty care

 2.  PROGRAM EVALUATION / REVIEW OF RESOURCE DELIVERY / QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITY

These abstracts must contain the following:

  • An introduction or background explanation of the evaluated activity
  • An aim to indicate what was being measured
  • How the evaluation was undertaken (method)
  • Who was evaluated (program, clients, service)
  • What tools were used? Were they validated tools? How they were validated?
  • Results which must reflect the aim
  • A conclusion or recommendation that is related to the aim and the results

 3.  SCIENTIFIC

A scientific abstract must contain the following:

  • An aim or hypothesis
  • Clearly defined methodology (quantitative, qualitative)
  • How the study was conducted
  • Who / what was studied
  • Were the tools used validated in the study? How they were validated?
  • How was the data analysed?
  • The results of the study must relate to the hypothesis or aim
  • A conclusion and recommendation that relates to the aim and is an outcome of the results.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Abstracts should be submitted using the abstract sample as a guide for layout.

  • Abstract title should be in BLOCK CAPITALS
  • Authors’ names should be on the next line
  • In case of more than one author please underline the name of the presenting author
  • Do not include degrees or titles
  • Authors’ organisations/institutions should appear on the next line and should include the suburb/city, state and country of the organisations/institutions.
  • Authors’ should note the word count at the end of the abstract

Abstracts Body Format:

  • Must be 300 words or less, inclusive of title, author(s) names, and institutional affiliation(s) and references. Please do not use abbreviations unless defined in the abstract.
  • All submissions should be in Microsoft Word format and file size no bigger than 1mb.

RAPID COMMUNICATION SESSION FOR POSTER PRESENTERS

  • Poster presenters will be offered an opportunity to present their posters in a rapid communication session.  
  • Presenters will have 2.5 minutes to present their poster. The presentation is to include a maximum of three (03) slides in powerpoint as a snap-shot of your poster.
  • Authors of accepted abstracts will receive information regarding the processes involved in a rapid communication prior to the meeting.
  • Please indicate on your submission if you wish to be considered for the Rapid Communication Session.

IN CONCLUSION

The deadline for poster abstract submissions is Friday 4 April 2014. The Review Committee will review all poster abstract submissions within two weeks after the closing date.

All poster presenters must register for the conference by the Early Bird Deadline for registration (11 July 2014) or the presentation will be withdrawn from the program.  There is no funding for submitted abstracts.  If this policy precludes your abstract being accepted for the program please contact the Conference Secretariat.

You may wish to provide A4 handouts of your poster or business cards at the display site.
