Program
This workshop will allow you to gain an understanding of the most up to date componentry available for upper limb amputees and will showcase the approach to upper limb prosthetic assessment and rehabilitation in urban, regional and remote New Zealand. It will also highlight Peke Waihanga’s holistic approach to provision of prosthetic care.
The workshop will be presented in a multidisciplinary format with case studies covering scenarios from a partial hand amputee through to a transhumeral amputee, and will cover body powered prostheses, myoelectric prostheses and osseointegration. There will also be a practical component, where participants will be able to experience different myoelectric control strategies.
The workshop is intended to help rehabilitation medicine physicians and therapists understand the possibilities in prescription of prosthetics for the upper limb, and rehabilitation of upper limb amputees. It will also reflect on how Peke Waihanga supports amputees of differing ethnicities and those living in remote communities.
