Theme:
Application of FES powered systems including upper and lower extremity FES cycling as well as partial body weight supported FES stepping in paediatric patients across neurological diagnoses to facilitate ongoing general health benefits and potential neurological gains including improvement in functional activities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Application of a wide range of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) powered systems which can be utilised with neurologically impaired children in activity based rehabilitation
  • Application and optimisation of FES to paediatric patients to facilitate best muscle activation
  • Hands-on experience setting up paediatric patients with various FES powered systems
  • Utilisation of FES powered systems to facilitate functional outcomes with paediatric patients

Overview:
In this 2 day course clinicians will learn innovative applications for paediatric neuro-rehabilitation utilising Restorative Therapies' FES powered systems including the RT300 FES upper and lower extremity cycle as well as the RT600 FES stepping system.

Participants will be guided through the steps of setting up a paediatric FES upper and lower extremity cycling program including optimising stimulation parameters, physical set-up and therapy settings to ensure best outcomes with paediatric patients.

Paediatric application of the RT600 will focus on FES integrated gait training and standing activities.

Specific techniques for utilisation of FES with children will be a focus throughout this course as well to promote active engagement during cycling and stepping programs.

Through hands-on workshops with paediatric patients, this course provides enriching opportunities for didactic & practical learning.
